In his leadership of ARToolworks, Professor Furness aims to continue his quest to build “bandwidth to the brain” and to harness human potential, through application of augmented and mixed reality technologies to industry, science, and the arts. Professor Furness is widely credited as one of the founding fathers of virtual reality. His early work in developing virtual control and visualization technologies for fighter aircraft has transitioned into a distinguished academic and commercial career which includes the founding of the HIT Lab at the University of Washington, and numerous inventions which have enhanced human computer interaction and individual’s lives, such as the virtual retinal display.

Through his advisory role to ARToolworks and as Director of the HIT Lab NZ at the University of Canterbury, Dr Billinghurst provides leadership and a connection to world-leading research in the field of Interaction Design. As a PhD researcher, in 2002 he developed the MagicBook interactive augmented reality interface. His research focusses on the intersection of tangible user interfaces, perceptual user interfaces and remote interaction, and his role as a leader in the field of augmented and mixed reality is attested to by his authorship of over 80 peer-reviewed publications, invited talks and numerous awards, including a a prestigious World Technology Network (WTN) World Technology Award in 2004.

Richard brings to ARToolworks a wealth of business experience in the management of software development for the enterprise. Over the past 15 years Richard has worked with muti-nationals, research organisations, start-up's and SME's developing his passion for technology based solutions across a number of fields. Much of Richard's recent career has been spent developing international business relationships in Europe, Asia and the USA. Having also lived in Australia and Hong Kong, he is especially familiar with the Asia/Pacific region. Alongside his role at ARToolWorks, Richard is also Managing Director of IP Communications, a company specialising in high definition teleconferencing solutions.

Philip leads ARToolworks’ technology and product development, and provides technical and managerial expertise in ARToolworks software development, projects, and customer support. His software development credentials were established through his contribution to several open-source projects, including the ARToolKit, which has risen to the top 1% of open-source projects worldwide under his management. His PhD research is focussed on human-robot interaction in space teleoperation, and he was a visiting scientist at the HIT Lab on the NASA-sponsored TeamVIP human-robot augmented reality project in 2005. He holds M.Sc.(Hons) and B.E.(Hons) degrees from the University of Canterbury.

Dan Belcher is a graduate of Brown University - where he studied Cognitive Science and Philosophy - and a current graduate student in Design Computing at the University of Washington's College of Architecture and Urban Planning. His passion is creating interfaces that empower all creative people by removing the barriers that normally impede fluid design. Before joining ARToolworks, he was a member of the Human Interface Technology Lab. Dan is Pacific Northwesterner by birth and a traveller by choice: having spent most of his adult life abroad, he has either lived, worked or studied in Japan, France, Senegal and Sri Lanka.
Alden has been working with ARToolworks since its inception stateside in 2002, handling financial and administrative support. Before that, Alden worked at the renowned and much loved HITLab in Seattle coordinating PR, communications and special events for the Lab. In addition to thoroughly enjoying her ongoing association with Drs. Furness and Billinghurst and the entire ARToolworks team, Alden has also helped launch several start up organizations by coordinating various aspects of early phase operational needs.
